Definition:
The prostate is a doughnut shaped male sex gland. Contraction of the muscles
in the prostate controls its function. Prostate fluid makes up the
bulk of semen. The prostate is the most common disorder found in
older men. However, cases of prostatitis have been associated with
men in there mid thirties. There are three conditions associated
with the prostate. One is an inflammation of the prostate. The others
are enlargement of the prostate, and benign prostatic hypertrophy
(BPH) Prostatitis can be either acute or chronic. The most common
cause of prostate inflammation is infection from bacteria or fungi.
Left untreated this infection may lead to more serious prostate
problems.
Symptoms:
Chronic prostatitis is usually associated with burning urination, an controllable
need to urinate, and frequent urination. Frequent urination during
the night is very common.
Holistic Treatment Plan:
Treating this condition involves removing the cause of the problem,
which is usually bacterial or fungal, and providing nutritional
support for the prostate. It is helpful to have a blood test that
measures creatinine levels and PSA.
