Definition:
Paget's disease of bone is a slowly progressive bone disease. Unlike osteoporosis
which is caused by hormonal changes. Paget's disease has no known
cause. Some researchers believe a virus may cause Paget's disease.
In Paget's disease normal bone is replaced by abnormal bone. This
abnormal bone is more brittle. The disease usually effects hips,
pelvis, shins, spine, thighs, and upper arms.
Symptoms:
In the early stages, this disease usually causes no symptoms, although there
may be some mild bone pain. As the disease progresses the pain will
become more frequent and severe. Stiffness will develop along with
impaired mobility. Over time deformities such as bowed legs, and
a bending of the spine will occur. Doctor's use x-rays, bone scans,
MRI, urine tests, and bone biopsy to verify the presence of this
disease. A Bone Resorption Assessment is a very accurate method
to determine the presence of Paget's disease. This test can be ordered
from my office.
Holistic Treatment Plan:
The best method for dealing with this condition is to provide the
body with the best nutritional support possible. A special form
of calcium called microcrystalline hydroxyapetite when combined
with a unique soy derivative called Iripflavone can be very effective
in helping the body produce good strong healthy bone.
