Definition:
Lyme Disease gets its name from the town in Connecticut where it was first
identified. Since that time Lyme Disease has been reported in every
state in the United States except Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Montana,
and Nebraska. Lyme disease has also been reported in many countries
around the world. Lyme disease is the most common tick induced illness
in this country. It is caused by bacteria called Spirochetes. Deer
ticks transmit the disease, but other woodland animals can carry
spirochetes. The mode of infection is very simple. The tick carrying
the bacteria falls off its host into grasses or brush there they
can bite a human and transmit the disease through the blood. These
ticks are hard to spot because they are as small as a pinhead. Because
they are so small they frequently go undetected until symptoms of
this disease appear.
Symptoms:
Lyme disease has many symptoms. The incubation period can be anywhere between
2 to 30 days. The first signs may be the appearance of a red circular
spot or rash. These symptoms then generally spread to fatigue, flu-like
symptoms, achiness, headache, joint pain, stiff neck or back, and
in some cases nausea or vomiting. Because tick bites are usually
painless, the incubation period is so long, and the symptoms of
Lyme disease are so varied, this disease may go unrecognized for
weeks or even months. By then the disease is very difficult to treat.
Testing for the presence of Lyme antibodies may not always be as
accurate as we would like. However, it is a good idea to have this
test done if you think that you have the disease. Many doctors will
treat patients for the presence of Lyme regardless of the test results,
if the symptoms warrant it.
Holistic Treatment Plan:
While antibiotic therapy can be useful its long-term use always
leads to the presence of other organisms. In most cases it is these
organisms that cause most of the chronic problems that patients
complain about. Whether my holistic treatment is eliminating Lyme
or other organism I can not be sure, but this protocol has eliminated
all symptoms in every patient that has come to me for help.
