Gallbladder Dysfunction

Definition:

A small organ located under the liver and attached by a duct (called the bile duct). The gallbladder acts as a reservoir. It stores bile, which is made in the liver. Bile is vital for the digestion of fats and the absorptio of fat-soluble vitamins. Congestion of bile in the gallbladder impairs fat digestion and leads to inflammation. This condition should be treated quickly.
Sometimes cholesterol crystallizes and combines with bile in the gallbladder to form gallstones.

Symptoms:

The first indication of gallbladder problems is the inability to digest fats. Bloat, gas, abdominal pain, chills, headache, pain in the right shoulder, light colored stools (sometimes foul smelling) are all symptoms associated with gallbladder problems.

Holistic Treatment Plan:

Gallbladder problems almost always originate in the liver. Usually with the bile becoming so thick, that it doesn=t flow well. So any treatment needs to include the liver as well. Treatment involves supporting fat digestion, thinning the bile, and relieving the inflammation in the gallbladder. Eating less fat is helpful. Pear, beet, and apple juice diluted in water are effective in eliminating gallbladder inflammation . Drinking three tablespoons of olive oil with the juice of one lemon before bed and upon waking may help to pass any gallstones-look for them in the stool. You can use grapefruit juice in place of lemon juice if necessary.
