Definition:
A degenerative condition of the lens of the eye. The lens thickens becoming
clouded or opaque. This is believed to be mostly caused by ultra-violet
rays of the sun speeding up auto-oxidation of the cell membranes
of the lens. Other causes can be injury to the eye, the use of steroids,
and heavy metal poisoning.
Symptoms:
Gradual loss of vision.
Holistic Treatment Plan:
This condition is better treated preventively-however nutritional
support can slow its progression. I strongly recommend that everyone
wear sunglasses all year. This reduces the damaging effects of ultra-violet
rays, which is the major cause of this condition.
