Definition:
Bursitis is an inflammation of an area found between tendons and
bone. These areas are found throughout the body. This area that
is affected is one that helps to promote muscular movement by cushioning
against friction between bones and other tissue. This is why bursitis
is more noticeable when you try to move. The area of inflammation
is called the bursa therefore the name bursitis, simply meaning
an inflammation of the bursa. Bursitis can affect anyone of almost
any age. Bursitis affects the hip, and shoulder joints the most
often. Bursitis of the arm is usually referred to as "tennis
elbow", while bursitis of the toe is commonly called, bunions.
Symptoms:
Pain, more so during movement, tenderness, to the touch, and limitation of
movement are associated with this condition.
