Definition:
This is an inflammatory disease most commonly associated with teenagers,
although it can affect adults as well. Hormones that are produced
at puberty cause acne. Acne is more common in males because androgens
(male hormones) stimulate the production of compounds, which lead
to clogged pores. During puberty, androgens increase in both males
and females. Many women develop more noticeable acne prior to menses
due to the release of progesterone in most cases the pores of the
skin become clogged with dirt, leading to infection of the skin.
This leads to an increase in bacteria and a mild infection occurs.
In some cases either chronic yeast infections or food allergy is
the culprit.
Symptoms:
This condition is associated with blackheads, pimples, and red
inflamed skin.
Holistic Treatment Plan:
Treatment consists of keeping the skin clean. Providing for proper
liver function is also important. Herbal cleansers are always preferred
to soap of any kind. A mild astringent is also useful. If food allergy
is suspect then removal of the specific foods is necessary. In some
cases a systemic yeast infection is the cause. In those cases treating
with anti-fungal internally is helpful
