Osteoporosis-A New Look

Osteoporosis effects millions of men and women each year. This degenerative disease is caused by a reduction in bone mass. That leads to a reduction of bone density, which increases the possibility of fractures, primarily in the hips and vertebra.

Osteoporosis is a major health problem, affecting over 25 million people in the United States alone. This condition accounts for over one million fractures each year.

Today, the yearly financial costs of osteoporosis in the US alone-based on hospitalization costs and acute and long term care is estimated to exceed ten billion dollars. And, with the rapid aging of the population these costs are expected to increase dramatically.

Experts agree that prevention is the best method of dealing with osteoporosis. The bone loss associated with osteoporosis usually goes undetected until about the age of 50. Because this is when women are first made aware of the status of their bones. At around the age of menopause women are first encouraged to have bone density tests. This test is designed to determine the extent of bone loss. However, by the time this test is performed, bone loss could be considerable.

There are two major factors that influence the risk of developing osteoporosis; one is the level of bone mass, which maxes out by age 25-30, the other is the RATE of bone loss.

Many health experts suggest measuring the rate of bone loss by means of a bone resorption test. This test is performed using a urine sample in the privacy of your home. The sample is then analyzed

to determine just how rapidly your body is losing bone mass.

The rate of bone loss ultimately determines bone
density. Measuring the rate of bone loss can help to determine the best way to prevent the onset of osteoporosis. The test is very accurate, simple, non-invasive, and can be followed up to assess your progress. Once the rate of bone loss is known follow up tests can be performed to assess the nutritional program being used. In this way the status of your bones can be evaluated and corrections can be made if necessary.

The Food and Drug Administration concedes that "maintenance of an adequate calcium intake throughout life may optimize peak bone mass at skeletal maturity and help to slow the rate of bone loss later in life, and may help to reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

MAJOR RISK FACTORS FOR OSTEOPOROSIS

*Family history of osteoporosis
*White or Asian ancestor
*Small body frame
*Postmenopausal
*Hysterectomy
*Inadequate calcium intake
*Inadequate exercise
*Smoking
*Excessive use of alcohol
*High caffeine intake
*Long term use of antacids
*Type 1-diabetes
*Long term use of steroids like prednisone

Many women are lead to believe that only Hormone Replacement Therapy will solve the osteoporosis problem. This is just not true. There are some very effective natural poducts that can be used to prevent and treat osteoporosis

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Prevention is the most effective method for dealing with Osteoporosis. Studies have shown that maximizing calcium intake during the growth years and up to age 50, can greatly affect peak bone mass. Because many people are allergic to milk and milk products I recommend supplementing with a good calcium product as early as age five.

If you are already experiencing bone loss there is still hope. A special form of calcium, called calcium microcrystalline hydroxyappatite with help to rebuild new healthy bone. When combined with a soy derivative called Ipriflavone the rate of bone loss will be reduced significantly and the production of new bone will be greatly enhanced. This combination has been used throughout the world for many years with no reported side-effects. I new product called Osteo Plus has been found to be very effective in preventing and treating cases of osteoporosis. Osteo Plus can be ordered through this website. The cost of this product is only $20.00 for a one month’s supply. Osteo Plus provides 800mg of MCHC calcium, 400 IU of Vitamin D, 600 mg of Ipriflavone, and 1.5mg of Boron
